Also, we will be implementing Jim Wendler's 5/3/1 program for bench press in the coming weeks (this is the same program we used for back squat). Generally, Thursdays will be bench press day (during this program) barring some scheduling conflicts, and to get ready for this program, you will be finding your theoretical 1 RM and training max today.
Bench Press
Find your theoretical 1 RM and your training max.
You have two options as to how to proceed:
- Estimate your 1 RM. Take 80-85% of your estimated max and perform as many reps as possible (be sure to take enough warm-up sets beforehand).
- Take your most recent 3 RM or 5 RM. Use this weight and perform as many reps as possible (again, be sure to warm-up adequately).
10 min EMOM of the "DB Bear Complex":
5 DB Deadlifts
5 DB Hang Power Cleans
5 DB Thrusters
The 2 DBs are a total of 45% BW, i.e., each DB is 22.5% BW. Coach Mike "Rut" Rutherford down at CrossFit KC is responsible for the DB Bear Complex - he writes about it in CrossFit Journal #58.
Your score is recorded as "X/Y," where X = # of rounds completed on the minute and Y = # of rounds completed for the remainder of the 10 minute period.
Compare to 10/13/10.
Olympian Natalie (Woolfolk) Burgener snatches 98 kg (216 lbs) at the 2007 Pan Am Games. Natalie is the daughter-in-law of Coach Mike Burgener, CrossFit's weightlifting head guru. Becky- you're right. Lincoln half is sold out! A buddy told me that he might pay for the full and then just run the half. I was considering the Papillion half, which is a couple weeks later (5/15)...
Lancer Tickets anyone? I'm exhibiting my sport during intermission Friday the 18th :)
Day 12 of burpee challange, check. Missed Snatch day :(
Two back to back wins last night in the Iowa Winter Games. Two more today.
Thanks TSC :)
Bench Press theoretical max work
warm up 45-5, 55-5

(looking back over my notes...I have benched 70 at home in the evening...don't know why mornings are so weak for me.)
10 emom of DB Bear Complex
5 db deadlifts #15 (no 20's left!)
5 db hang power cleans
5 db thrusters
ratio of emom rounds completed to the rest of the rounds 10:0
(an undefined number....must mean that my weight was too light)
Snatch work was good!
Peter...hope your Iowa Games are going well!
Question for Kiley and Phil; are you guys thinking about doing another TSC event for St. Patty's Day? (like the 5k we did last year) Just curious...
In a battle not seen since the days of Troy, the non-Iowa misfits over came a 0-2 half time score to win 3-2 and deny the citizens of Iowa their gold metal :)
Tee-Jay, St. Patty's 5k sounds great.
yo, yo ... Coaches ... need a reminder ... what web site do you recommend for weight lifting shoes?
Andy - the website is www.vsathletics.com. Just click on "Footwear" and then scroll down - you'll see a black pair and a white pair.
TJ - I'll get back to you on that one. Last year's was fun.
TJ - check out Monday's post - you'll like it!
Peter, do you have any discounted tickets at all? I am considering going - it would be fun to see broomball played in that arena I think!
